This role offers a dynamic opportunity to showcase your technical expertise while collaborating with and supporting a diverse team to deliver performances across multiple locations. We have an office space close to downtown and present performances in the well-equipped Revelstoke Performing Arts Centre, downtown in Grizzly Plaza all summer long, and bring multiple city blocks to life with LUNA Fest.

About Arts Revelstoke:

Arts Revelstoke is a non-profit organization and registered charity for all things Arts and Culture in Revelstoke. We are a multidisciplinary presenter with a multitude of programmed performances and experiences across multiple genres and venues. Our presentations include music, theatre, comedy, film, circus performances, family-friendly events, visual art installations and more. We operate in a number of different venues and are always dreaming up new ways and spaces to present arts and cultural programming to the community. We are seeking a motivated and experienced Technical Director to join our dynamic team. This role offers the opportunity to work in our cutting-edge theatre, use our sound equipment and gear, collaborating with diverse teams to help deliver professional performing arts programming.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct thorough assessments of technical equipment across different locations, identifying maintenance needs and areas for improvement. Maintain cleanliness and organization of tech equipment and workspaces, including inventory management and safe storage practices. Manage stock orders and inventory organization, ensuring efficient equipment usage and tracking. Develop comprehensive plans for improvements to technical systems, including lighting, sound, and projector systems. Liaise with performers to provide necessary technical support, working closely with the General Manager to negotiate and coordinate contracts, and, under the supervision of the Executive Director, coordinate additional technicians and equipment as required. Supervise load-ins and load-outs of shows with the assistance of volunteers, students, and contractors, adapting technical setups to meet specific requirements. Program and operate technical equipment during shows, ensuring smooth execution and high-quality performance delivery. Develop and maintain a capital acquisitions list for review by the Executive Director, ensuring ongoing improvements and upgrades. Supervise activities in technical spaces to ensure compliance with safety protocols and best practices. Opportunities exist to support other stakeholders, help build the tech community in Revelstoke, and connect with local and travelling bands and other tech and performers throughout Canada.

Skills:

Ability to negotiate technical riders with performers and renters Technical proficiency and expertise, coupled with a clear understanding of your own capabilities. Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset to effectively work within our team. Ability to continuously learn and adapt to evolving technical and interpersonal requirements. Aptitude for teaching and mentoring, supporting the professional development of our team members, volunteers and students.
Leadership qualities to guide and inspire others. Proficiency in negotiation and adeptness in setting organizational and personal boundaries.

Experience:

At least two years of professional training in stage production. Two years of on-the-job experience will be considered. Minimum of two years of previous experience as a lighting or sound technician in professional performing arts shows. Familiarity with current technical systems, including lighting, sound, and projector setups. Ability to work calmly and effectively in high-pressure situations and set fair boundaries as needed. Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with artists, performers, co-workers, and community groups. Proactive and resourceful, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively during busy periods.
