BirdBelly is the new moniker of Alberta-born Métis singer-songwriter Cynthia Hamar – a name that marks a bold creative shift into deeper, more cinematic territory. Praised as “menacing, powerful, and contemplative” (Music Arena Gh, 2022), her music blends raw emotion with richly textured folk-Americana, steeped in story and spirit.
Hamar has released four studio albums, including Joint & Marrow (Neon Moon Records), which charted on earshot!’s National Top 50 and earned her a 2024 Canadian Folk Music Award nomination for Indigenous Songwriter of the Year. Now recording and performing as BirdBelly, her newest release The Wind The Wood has already begun building national momentum-landing on the CBC provincial playlist and earning a place on the weighted college radio charts.
