About Kimmortal
Kimmortal is a multi-hyphenate artist and musician, born in Surrey, BC, to a portrait artist from Negros Occidental, Philippines, and a fiery single mother from Pangasinan. A 2nd generation settler on the unceded traditional territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, Kimmortal blends hip hop, visual art, theatre, spoken word, ancestral wisdom, and liberation to create spaces where queer and diasporic youth feel they belong.
Their powerful stage presence and multifaceted music have seen them open for Thundercat, Saul Williams, Shad K and Gabriel Teodros. Kimmortal has performed at SXSW, Junofest, Rifflandia, NXNE, Winnipeg Pride Festival and Taking Black Pride (Seattle).
Kimmortal’s visual art background and theatre experience shape their artistic presentation. Their 2019 concept album “X marks the Swirl” explores queer diasporic longing and solidarity, earning a Polaris long-list nomination and recognition in CBC’s top 19 albums of 2019.
In 2022, their anthem “Sad Femme Club” received acclaim from US Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. This led to the release of “K I’m Mortal” from their 2023 album “Shoebox,” featuring award-winning singles like “Blue and Orange” and “This Dyke.” Kimmortal’s 2024 highlights include a nomination for their work in the CBC Original series “Sort Of” and an upcoming single with rapper Shad K.
