Spectra

Spectra combines contortion and movement with an apparatus inspired by Japanese tree supports.

Spectra draws inspiration from Edasasae, the traditional Japanese practice of supporting trees with wooden poles. The structures protect the trees from the elements and guide their growth. This concept is translated into the design and use of a unique circus prop that functions as a collaborative structure rather than a static apparatus. The prop distributes tension, enables risk, and reflects the often-invisible frameworks—familial, social, and communal—that make endurance and transformation possible.
