The Dancer is a part of the Chorographia project, an exploration of the connections between humanity, society, and the natural environments we live within. It brings to life previous paintings to celebrate how nature can be mapped on the human body and how our bodies are connected to the natural landscapes we are embedded within.
Topographical patterns flow over the landscape of the Dancer’s body. As with other human bodies, their skin is a myriad of changing colours, scars, bumps, and indents. Lights surrounding the platform illuminate the sculpture from below, creating this sense of light flowing up from the earth. The figure is captured in a moment of exaltation, paused in a moment in time, looking as if the movement is about to re-ignite at any moment.
