Ambient Atlas is an ongoing experiment of live and improvised site-specific sonic sculptures via a 4-string electric bass and a table-top full of loopers, delays, reverbs, and other effects. It was conceived as a reaction to being without bandmates and an exploration of playing with the spaces I called home on the road. These far out there, otherworldly landscapes where humans were hard to find served as the perfect backdrop to the subtle atmospheres I created. With the help of technology I can capture and manipulate time and build upon it creating individual elements that build into a complex microworld. I’m a different kind of weatherman, creating clouds for ears and imagination where each formation is unique, stretching into the sky from soft cirrus or commanding cumulonimbus to sprawling stratus or the odd lens-shaped lenticular. A slow unfolding of auditory shapes tell a new story with every passing wind.
LUNA will be the first time I attempt to translate that exterior and solitary work to a venue and audience. With the help of landscape photography and footage gathered from my travels I will create an interior environment that attempts to evoke the surreality of performing in geographical solitude for no one other than mother nature and father time.
