Flight of Light is a sculptural installation inspired by the layered identity of Revelstoke—a town where culture, nature, and community intersect in unexpected and beautiful ways. Installed in the alleyway between the Regent Hotel and Pub and Skookum Bike Shop, the piece is a tribute to the movement and energy that flows through this unique space.
Created from repurposed cutlery and salvaged bike parts, the sculpture reflects the character of the alley itself—a place where cycling culture and social connection meet. The materials, once functional and discarded, represent these two businesses, and celebrate both sustainability and transformation.
At the heart of the work are two ravens, referencing the Indigenous story of Raven stealing the light—a tale of mischief, wisdom, and illumination. In this interpretation, the ravens bring light to Revelstoke, casting it across our stunning landscape, which is represented by hand plasma-cut metal silhouettes of local mountains, trees and wildflowers.
By day, Flight of Light invites quiet reflection; by night, it comes alive through illumination, casting intricate shadows that animate the alleyway and echo the shifting railway rhythms of the town. The piece is meant to draw people in—on foot, by bike, or in passing—offering a moment of beauty, story, and place within an unexpected urban corridor.
Through this work, I hope to honour Revelstoke’s spirit: creative, wild, connected, and always in motion.
