With a diverse range of genres, and a passion for groove, Ranger Smash is known for creating energetic, thought-provoking, lively music. Best friends since they were ten years old, Teo Saefkow and Zak Windle began writing music together in the summer of 2013. Born out of a shared love of all things sonic, their mission is to create as much sound with as few people as possible. Ranger Smash delivers powerful crooning vocals, tight harmonies, and intricate arrangements, with influences ranging from the B-52s to Hippo Campus, The Foo Fighters, Santana, and Hozier.
Their quirky banter and cohesive stage presence quickly gained them recognition in their home town of Smithers, BC. They played music festivals across Northern BC, and in 2016, They self-produced and released a 10-track album. When not playing together, Teo and Zak were busy with their own projects. Teo moved to Vancouver, and studied performance arts at the acclaimed Theatre program Studio 58. After graduating, he found success in the theatre community in the lower mainland. He toured throughout North America with various theatre companies, and self-produced two albums with his own music project, “Scalawag.”
Zak performed with many different bands throughout northern BC and produced an album for his band “Thee Night Bamm,” as well as a single for his other band “Living Room Front Flips.” In 2019, he was asked to join Grammy award-winning artist Alex Cuba on his “Sublime” tour and has played with him ever since.
With newfound experience and skill, and the same passion as before, Ranger Smash, now based in Vancouver, is back and better than ever. In the fall of 2022, they set up a live recording session at the Greenhouse venue in Abbotsford, and produced three videos of their most recent songs.
At the heart of Ranger Smash is a deep friendship, and a shared goal: Have fun.
